A FUTURE FULL OF OPPORTUNITIES
When visiting Jama Mining Machines AB, the relaxed atmosphere and forward-looking mindset are immediately noticeable. The company has recently inaugurated a 1,000 m2 extension to its factory, providing additional space for expanded production and warehousing. This creates new opportunities to strengthen its presence in the Nordic market and, in the long term, to reach a global customer base.

Since 2010, Jama has been based in Skelleftehamn, Skellefteå. The company employs 40 people and continues to increase its turnover. Over the past three years, Jama has reached record-high results and sees strong potential for continued growth.

  – A lot of positive things are happening at Jama right now, and we have clear growth ambitions. The factory extension and the increased capacity it provides are an important part of our strategy. DRIVING FORCE TO STREAMLINE WORK IN THE MINE
Jama’s history dates back to 1948, when Torbjörn Bask founded a mechanical workshop focused on developing and manufacturing mining machines to improve productivity in mines. With his extensive background as a miner, Torbjörn clearly understood the opportunities for efficiency improvements and operational enhancements.

That innovative spirit of constantly seeking improvements in close cooperation with customers remains a core part of the company today. Jama is now a world-leading supplier within its segment of heavy-duty special machines and equipment for the international mining industry. Its main product is the scaling machine, but the company also manufactures charging vehicles as well as various safety and service products, such as safety chambers and wheel carriers.

All mining machines are tailored to meet each customer’s specific requirements and are continuously developed by Jama’s innovative R&D team – and always with quality in focus. At Jama, quality is synonymous with efficiency, safety, working environment, and operator comfort. This approach has resulted in Jama’s scaling machine, the SBU 8000, being named the world’s best mining machine and becoming one of the best-selling machines in its category worldwide.

A scaling machine typically has a service life of around 10-20 years, but there are machines still in operation today that were manufactured over 20 years ago. Longevity depends largely on how well the machines are maintained. Each scaling machine consists of a large number of components, all of which must withstand heavy loads and harsh operating conditions over time. In selecting hydraulic components, Jama relies on HydraSpecma.

FINDING SOLUTIONS TOGETHER WITH HYDRASPECMA
The partnership with HydraSpecma spans more than 30 years. It began with a need for hydraulic cylinders and has gradually expanded to include a wide range of components. The two companies work closely together to find the best possible solutions, making the relationship a key part of the collaboration.

In 2016, Patrik Öhlin joined Jama as Head of Hydraulics after previously working at HydraSpecma, giving him valuable insight into both organizations.

Delivery reliability is a critical factor for Jama. One objective of the company’s recent investments is to shorten lead times. Production must run smoothly without unplanned stoppages, and components must be readily available to provide fast service to customers. This requires close, well-functioning cooperation with suppliers, so proximity and good communication with HydraSpecma serve as a clear success factor.

  – HydraSpecma offers reliable deliveries. At the same time, they have a large warehouse and a store in Skellefteå that is in close proximity to us. I can quickly call or drive by and we will always find a solution. That simplifies our work a lot and provides real peace of mind, explains Patrik.

TOWARDS NEW RECORD HIGHS 
Jama is now aiming for new heights and establishing itself on the global market. To access new markets, the company has signed a reseller agreement with Epiroc, a Swedish productivity partner for mining and construction customers, with operations in 150 countries. This partnership opens sales channels to a number of new markets around the world.

  – The collaboration with Epiroc feels both right and timely for Jama. Year after year, we have increased our turnover while building strong capacity and an organization ready for the next step. The future looks very exciting, says Eva.

Expansion is taking place gradually, without compromising the quality and innovative spirit that have defined the company since its founding. Jama is committed to continuously upgrading its machines and improving quality. Development is primarily driven by three key factors: increased demands on availability, environmental requirements, and enhanced operator safety. The company firmly believes there is always something that can be improved. It’s an outlook that is shared with HydraSpecma, which supports Jama on its development journey.
