Since its founding, Flexus Balasystem has developed innovative solutions for efficient and sustainable waste management. With its unique round-baling technology, the company became a pioneer in the European market and today has installations all over the world. Brothers Bo and Jan Ansbjer grew up on a farm, where they started helping with daily work from an early age. Problem-solving and finding ways to improve processes came naturally to them. In the late 1970s, round baling was still new in Sweden, but there were no effective tools available for handling the heavy bales, making the work difficult for the brothers. Their solution was to develop handling equipment for the tractor’s front loader, along with a round bale trailer connected to the tractor that used hydraulics to load the bales directly in the field. However, the brothers were not alone in facing these challenges. Interest in their solutions quickly grew, and in 1983 they founded BALA Industri to manufacture and sell their inventions on a larger scale. Initially focused on equipment for the agricultural sector as well as solutions for the construction industry, the company took a decisive step in 1992 with the development of its first waste management baler — an innovation that laid the foundation for today’s Flexus Balasystem. Since 2015, the company has been fully owned by Bo Ansbjer. Bo’s commitment to both the company and the wider community is clear. He is a dedicated local entrepreneur who sees global opportunities, and his commitment, expertise, and openness to new ideas have helped build a successful business.

  – Profitability is important, but it has never been the main driver of our business plan. We have always been convinced that an efficient machine will mean an affordable business for both us and our customers, says Bo.

SUSTAINABLE AND SAFE WASTE MANAGEMENT
Flexus Balasystem's solutions are used in the handling and transport of household waste and industrial residues, where the round-baling technology contributes to both cost-efficiency and increased environmental safety. The technology provides a high compression with a very low energy consumption. After compression, the bales are hermetically sealed, preventing organic decomposition. This allows waste to be stored and transported with minimal odor and without the risk of spontaneous combustion. 

  – Waste is a challenge and a cost for every country. It usually needs to be transported to a waste facility, and it is essential that this is done in a safe and sustainable way. Flexus’ round-baling system is one of the world’s most sustainable and cost-effective waste management solutions because it ensures efficient and safe storage and handling of waste,  explains Bo.

Flexus Balasystem manufactures 10–15 facilities annually. Over the years, the company has completed several hundred installations in more than 50 countries worldwide. All development and manufacturing take place at the facility in Nossebro, Sweden, where key personnel within support and sales are also based. In addition, the company works with around 20 agents across the globe.

The companies are currently working on optimizing their highest-capacity baler model, Typhoon. The hydraulic system is being reviewed and functions are being improved to increase user-friendliness and create production advantages.

  – The baler must be as efficient as possible. An efficient machine lowers pressing costs while also delivering environmental benefits. That is our goal and what drives us. It’s really not something I even have to think about — avoiding waste comes naturally to us, says Bo.

Håkan Karlsson, Application Engineer at HydraSpecma, is highly familiar with the round-baling system and values the close collaboration with Flexus Balasystem.

  – Flexus Balasystem has a strong drive to continuously develop its machines, and I truly enjoy the challenge. It’s about finding the optimal solutions to make the system more efficient. Through close cooperation and good teamwork, we make progress, which is very rewarding, says Håkan.

Once the adjustments and new functionality updates for the Typhoon model are completed, the next step will be to modernize the lower-intensity Breeze model together with HydraSpecma. To make the hydraulic system as efficient as possible, a holistic perspective is essential.
